Walnuts & Walnut Sauce
What could this mean?
The leaked emailed from Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesda contained many cryptic references to ‘walnuts’ and ‘walnut sauce’:
I’m coming to town the week after next and will bring some walnuts!1
Hey John, We know you’re a true master of cuisine and we have appreciated that for years … But walnut sauce for the pasta? Mary, plz tell us the straight story, was the sauce actually very tasty? 2
I should go through? I look forward to working with you (and maybe getting some of that pasta and walnut sauce dish!!) 3
We promised her a package, Rachel cleared that. I think we created one – like Walnut or something. Does this ring a bell? 4
Pineal Gland

One gruesome theory is that a walnut is the pineal gland found in the human body and walnut sauce is the secretion it makes. The pineal gland is located in the brain and responsible for the production of melanin which modulates sleep patterns.
In esoteric traditions, the pineal gland is thought to be the “principal seat of the soul”. Madame Blavatsky, founder of Theosophy, associated it with the Hindu concept of the third eye, or the Ajna chakra.
Historical Consumption of Pineal Glands
Washington Times 19155
An article from 1915 documents how “backward children” were fed pineal glands to see if it made them more intelligent. It discusses how these must be obtained from the body of young children for it to work properly.
Francis Hopkinson 17766
An odd essay published 1776 where the author finds a letter from a group of learned men who have secret information about the pineal gland. They had acquired “stuff” which, when consumed, allowed a person to indwell inside the soul of another person.
The Times Dispatch (1914)7
An article from 1914 reports on an experiment where chickens were fed bovine pineal glands. Pineal-fed chickens weighed 219 grams after three weeks, whereas those not fed pineal glads weighed 92 grams.
Also discusses how consuming pineal glands could make people live forever.

Stratfor Email
An unhinged email makes reference to smoking pineal glands. It is found in the 2013 leak of Stratfor emails:
You’re not going to smoke my pineal gland […]
Did you know that the alkaloid of DMT is actually a neurotransmitter like LSD 25 and 5-MEODMT, psylocin A + B and all psychadelic drugs because the definition of psychadelia is a neurotransmitter that the metabolite itself thereof creates a kaleidoscopic vision of geometric proportions in the pea and pea or whatever attachment to the pineal gland 7
Terry Pratchett
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Sourcery describes the wizard Rincewind looking “like someone who had just eaten a handful of pineal glands and washed them down with a pint of adrenochrome”.
Walnut Sauce
It is unclear whether walnut sauce refers to adrenochrome or the secretion the pineal gland makes.
